Frequently Asked Questions - SeaThru MOBILE

What is SeaThru MOBILE?

SeaThru MOBILE is a web-based service that uses AI technology to assist in counting aquatic larvae. It helps make counting faster, more convenient, and reduces human error. Users can save counting records for future reference and share results to platforms such as LINE and Messenger. Users can register with an email address (Gmail is recommended) and receive 20 free uses.

SeaThru MOBILE supports a wide range of aquatic species, categorized as follows:
White shrimp larvae:
• Nauplii
• Postlarvae (P4–P5, P8+, or larger)
• Zoea
Black tiger shrimp larvae:
• Postlarvae P8–P14
• Postlarvae P15+
Giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii):
• Nauplii
• Larvae (non-inverted)
• Larvae (inverted)
• Mixed-stage larvae
Tilapia:
• Tilapia fry
• Red tilapia fry
• Tilapia or red tilapia eggs
• Yolk-sac larvae
• Swimming-up fry
Asian seabass (barramundi):
• 7 days post-hatch (7 dph)
• Fry
Other fish species:
• Neon tetra
• Fancy carp (koi)
• Catfish swimming-up fry
• General fish fry
Black soldier fly larvae:
• Larvae up to approximately 5 days old (≤5 DOLS)
• Black soldier fry larvae
Zooplankton:
• Artemia (instar I stage)
Other aquatic larvae:
• Lobster larvae
• Crab larvae (including mud crab, swimming crab, etc.)
• Chada shrimp larvae

Several aquaculture farms are currently using SeaThru MOBILE. In addition, many large-scale farms have adopted SeaThru COUNTER, a dedicated AI-powered counting machine based on the same core technology.

SeaThru MOBILE achieves over 95% accuracy* when images are taken according to recommended guidelines, such as proper lighting, no shadows, and minimal overlap among larvae. Typical deviation is approximately 3–5%.
* Note: Accuracy depends on image quality and environmental conditions during image capture.
• Reduces time spent on manual counting
• Minimizes human counting errors
• Stores historical counting data
• Convenient for on-site field use
• Provides faster workflows with traceable data
SeaThru MOBILE provides 20 free uses for trial. After that, users may purchase counting packages as follows (average cost approximately 3–5 THB per count):
• 99 THB / 20 uses
• 199 THB / 45 uses (Most popular)
• 299 THB / 80 uses
• 399 THB / 120 uses

In general, size variation does not affect counting. However, larvae with extremely small or pale hepatopancreas may not be detected, as the AI primarily analyzes hepatopancreas and eye features.

Undercounting is more common than overcounting. This is mainly due to continuous movement of larvae, which can result in unclear images and missed detections. Nevertheless, overall accuracy remains high.

Approximately 1,000–2,000 individuals per count. For optimal results, please follow the detailed guidelines available on the website:

• Dead shrimp with dark hepatopancreas may still be counted
• Shrimp with pale or transparent hepatopancreas will not be counted

Yes. Excessive water volume causes larvae to overlap and makes focusing more difficult. Recommended water volume is just enough to cover the dorsal side of the larvae, approximately 500 ml, or adjusted based on container size. The key principle is shallow water that allows normal swimming without overlap.

Errors may occur because:
• Carbon particles resemble shrimp hepatopancreas
• Feed powder resembles shrimp eyes
Clean and clear water without feed residue or carbon is strongly recommended. However, if larvae significantly outnumber debris, the AI will attempt to exclude non-target objects.
A white container is recommended to maximize contrast.
Recommended size: approximately 38 × 38 cm, using a solid white square basin.
• Capture from directly above, with the camera parallel to the surface
• Frame only the water area inside the container
• Avoid overhead shadows and reflections
• If necessary, an umbrella may be used to diffuse overhead lighting.

A minimum resolution of 3 megapixels is recommended. Most modern smartphones already meet this requirement and are suitable for SeaThru MOBILE.

Generally, no. A smartphone alone is sufficient if images are taken correctly.
Exceptions:
• Shrimp nauplii (white shrimp, giant freshwater prawn, black tiger shrimp)
• Zooplankton
These require dedicated bottom-up lighting to achieve sufficient clarity due to extremely small size.
For size measurement functions, a black right-angle triangle reference (1 cm × 1 cm) must appear in at least four positions within the image.

Yes, with the appropriate supporting equipment.

Yes, email verification is required. However, Gmail registration is recommended for smoother use.

No. Internet connectivity is required for processing. Slower internet connections will result in longer processing times.

Yes, but a specialized setup is required. A transparent tray (glass or acrylic) placed over an LED light source is necessary. Approximately 500 larvae per image can be processed using this setup.

Larvae are constantly moving, so each image captured is slightly different, leading to small variations in results. However, submitting the same image file will always produce the same result.
